Treat the Root Not the Symptoms of Diabetes

When someone has an immediate trauma or illness there is nothing better than modern medicine with all the tools and know how of today. However when it comes to chronic, ongoing disease like diabetes and obesity we have a huge problem in America and is global in scale. 25.8 million Americans have diabetes and it is estimated that 79 million people over 20 have prediabetes according to the CDC’s National Diabetes Fact Sheet, 2011.

By the time people have full blown diabetes and other issues that go along with it like obesity and high blood pressure the treatment is most often dealing with the symptoms and not the underlying problem. When people start taking insulin they usually start putting on weight and their cholesterol and blood pressure go up needing treatment with other medications creating further health issues.

Most people are never given the tools and knowledge to avoid high blood sugar in the first place. The real problem is a poor diet of processed foods, white flour products, too much sugar intake, and nutrient deficiencies. Trying to deal with the high blood pressure, bad cholesterol, obesity and the like never addresses the underlying problem of high glucose. This is all a result of what we are eating.

Lowering Glucose With Meds Is Not Good

Lowering your blood sugar with medications can increase your risk of death. A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine has shown that people given intensive glucose lowering therapy had a higher risk of death, stroke and cardiovascular disease. This creates too much insulin and does not address the underlying issue of poor diet.

The American diet is full of empty calories, refined and quickly absorbed sugars (sodas, sweets) simple carbohydrates (white bread, pasta, rice etc.). This is what makes our cells resistant to insulin and creates an ever growing cycle of poor health that gets continually worse. Diabetes, obesity and the inevitable conditions that follow are mostly all preventable and reversible with the right kind of diet.

The answer is not more and better medications but to address the underlying issues of poor diet, toxins in the environment, high stress and the like. We need to realize that the traditional treatment of prediabetes and the type II diabetes that follows needs to have a new approach. We have to change what we put into our bodies and especially our kids who are going to suffer most if this trend continues by being less healthy and dying at a younger age than generations before them.

With the right knowledge you can take charge over this and be very healthy but you need to know what to do to avoid this. I have overcome prediabetes myself and have outlined how I did it in simple terms on my page “Nuts & Bolts” that you can see here. I want to show others how to overcome and reverse prediabetes. This is really basic stuff and you can do this!
