The Diabetes and Obesity Epidemic For Our Kids
Diabetes and Obesity The Not So Hidden Epidemic Anymore
Diabetes and obesity are the biggest and growing health issue of our time. It is the leading cause of most of the underlying health problems like heart disease, cancer and shortened lifespan. Most of these problems stem from lifestyle, eating habits, food availability and is mostly preventable. Wow, let that sink in.
We are living in the first generation that our children will be sicker and die younger than the generation before for the first time in history. This diabetes and obesity epidemic is estimated to affect half of all Americans by 2020 which is not too far away. This is the leading cause of death that can be prevented.
In spite of this pervasive and imminent threat to health, nobody in government or key organizations are looking at ways to prevent this with screening and treating prediabetes but rather are looking to develop new drugs to try to deal with the symptoms instead of the problem.
Type 2 diabetes has tripled in the last 30 years in America and is estimated that over 67 million people have prediabetes. Our children will be suffering from illness and disease that used to be associated only with those much older. It’s estimated that one third of children are overweight in America. Childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past 30 years according to the CDC
I know it kills me when I take my son to his Little League games that most of the kids are sucking on ring pops, drinking sugary sodas, eating candy and chomping on Cheetos. At the same time all the parents are eating just as bad with cheese covered nachos, chips and sodas setting a terrible example for the kids. This diabetes and obesity has got to stop for the health of our kid’s and our country.
This is not just an issue in America but worldwide. It used to be in China that diabetes was almost unheard of a couple of decades ago, now there are over 90 million people in China with diabetes and about 150 million that are prediabetic. Worldwide there are presently 285 million living with diabetes. By staying on the present course it is expected that we will be approaching 438 million people with diabetes worldwide by 2030 according to the International Diabetes Foundation. What a staggering number!
We need take charge of your own health and especially the health of our children. Diabetes and obesity are the major cause of disease and a shortened life span. I know I don’t want my kid’s to suffer with this. In America we struggle with health care and the costs associated with it. Dealing with the diabetes and obesity crisis would do more than anything to lower the costs. There really needs to be a grassroots social movement to reverse this trend. I hope that with this website I am being a part of that.
I have created my website to help those who catch this early in the prediabetes stage with quick, healthy and common sense ways to lower your glucose and get your glucose numbers below the prediabetes stage. To get started immediately on my site visit the “Nuts and Bolts” page. I used to be prediabetic but I am happy to say that I am no longer. You do this by educating yourself with different resources like mine and others, some that I recommend are below. Good luck to those who are actively lowering their glucose. You can do it!
One of the doctors and authors that I really like because he really gets this problem we’re are facing and articulates it well is Dr. Hyman. He has coined a new word for diabetes and obesity and called it “diabesity”. He has a book and website called “The Blood Sugar Solution” that is great for those wanting to get a handle on this issue. I have included a link to his book below and you can also see my review on it here.

Hello Joe, I am also concerned about this very serious problem and I am glad that you are trying solve it. I would like to see an area on this website that deals with ideas that would help to solve this problem.
Hi Bob and thanks for the comment. I welcome others comments about how to address this issue. I don’t think it will take anything short of a social movement to change whats on our plates that’s making everyone have high blood sugar. I think the best place to start is in our own home but it is a huge social crises that cannot continue. Thanks again.
